<Violin Class, Chicken Party and One Wish>
Our Violin Class, which we opened on April 20th,
has come to its 6th lesson. While carrying out our violin class, we discovered a very special thing. We have had a perfect attendance rate. No one has
been absent starting from the first day. Usually, Korean NGO staffs have biases that there is a high absence rate in gratis multicultural
programs, but what we have realized from this lesson is that our children have
no reason to be absent if they get to learn in good quality lessons where
teachers could give one-to-one guidance.
Since the majority of our Rainbow Dream children
(members of our Saturday school program) are going to become third graders, it
is an important finding that children respond positively to our high quality
lessons. During the initial stage of our social cooperative work 7 years ago, our center's education and lessons focused on liberty and
comfort such as being open and free to everybody and providing them with
lessons whenever they came to learn. But we realize that now, children might be
more in need of quiet, high quality lessons and classes where they can receive
a more in-depth education.
On May 7th, we held our Children’s Day after Saturday
school session. People from the <Now we are going to fry> event from ‘Goopnae chicken’ introduced to us by Kim Jin
Young participated. Twenty Ewha Foreign Language High School students from ‘Daum club’ gave a dance
performance for the children, our piano class volunteer Jo Su Hyun gave a
wonderful piano performance, and our violin teachers also carried out an
elegant violin performance for our Children’s Day celebration party. We were,
at first, worried because the scale of our event and party became larger than
we planned it to be, but we were able to smoothly manage our party thanks to
our 10 volunteers from ‘Happy Move.’ What could we possibly do without our Happymovers?
^^
Lastly, we have one request to make to our
supporters. Our Mothers’ Homeland History & Culture Calendar <China, Vietnam
series> became so popular that we are almost out of stack and our violin
class (our follow-up project after the art therapy program) is currently
operating well, but statistically, we are under a large budget deficit for the
first half of this year. From January to April, we report a shortage of
370,0000won. Not only is this the first time we’ve held this many programs but
it is the first time we’ve ever been short of money. So we are a little bit
perplexed. That is why we would like to request some donation from our supporters.
And we’ve found one place we would like to go this
upcoming summer vacation! From June 25th to September 25th, Hangaram Art
Museum, Seoul Arts Center is holding an exhibition of the renowned picture book
author Anthony Browne. Our children would like to see this exhibition with
their family or with our volunteers. We have about 30 children, and since we
have to split our children and mothers or volunteers into small groups in order
to go see the exhibition on weekdays, tickets for the mothers and volunteers
are necessary as well. We hope our supporters will consider all of these
circumstances. Thank you once again.
