<The Opening of our Wednesday Violin Class and Plans for Children's
Day>
On
April 20, we started our 'Wednesday Violin Class.’ Yoo-chan in first grade, Woo-jin
and Jong-yeon in second grade, Eun-ji and Su-bin in third grade, and Ji-hye in
fifth grade are our students in this class. In the case of our piano class, 30 children have registered and nearly
20 children come to learn every Saturday. However, we have opened our violin
class for only those that are determined and ready to try their best in
learning.
Kim yae-ji and Kim do-a, orchestral music major
students who have graduated Ewha University this year, teach children in this class.
We have no difficulty in lending the instruments for up to 10 weeks because we have received a donation of 10 violins and bought
three more at our own expense. Along with the instruments, we have prepared
music stands and textbooks. On top of this, ‘Eun-Pa(은파) Instruments’ located at Seocho-dong has kindly offered
to give us help when we need to repair any damages to our instruments.
Frankly speaking, we did undergo some difficulty in
the process of starting this class since most multicultural mothers did not
know what the violin was, and so we had some trouble in explaining the concept
of this new instrument to the children’s mothers. But we think that more
mothers would come and find our violin class with their children towards autumn once they hear about it through word of mouth.
As for Children’s Day, we were at first worried
about what we would do during our party on Children's Day, but volunteer Jin-young
Kim from ‘Happy Move’ introduced and
facilitated an event by ‘Goopnae Chicken’, < Now, we are going to fry>,
so we are expecting the ‘Goopnae Chicken’ food truck with 50 chickens to
prepare food for the children on the day of our party. On Children’s Day, we
will, as always, hold our party at 3p.m. after our Saturday class session,
which is the usual time we begin our Saturday parties with ‘Happy Move.’
Also, for that day, twenty ‘Daum club’ students
from Ewha Foreign Language High School have prepared a special performance. Also,
Hong Soon-neong representative of corporate ‘Inoflow’ promised to prepare 50
dolls for our children.
Last Christmas, we were able to share 50 dolls with
our Rainbow dream children
and children from two
different shelters, and we are so grateful to be able to give presents to
children once again on this upcoming Children's Day as well.
Also, we
appreciate our supporter Yoon il-seon who sent us a generous donation after
seeing our story about preparing bit by bit for Children's Day on facebook.
And lastly, we express deep thanks to Nam-Hee Kim
from ‘Happy Move’ who came at once to volunteer after seeing the story about a Rainbow
Dream child coming to Saturday School in his winter shoes on our private
facebook account, and to teacher Min-jeong Kim, living in Pohang, who sent some
new shoes for our children, and to supporter Shin-jeong Park who kindly sent
new shoes to a younger brother who became sulky after only his older sister got
new shoes from other donations. Thank you so much.
