<Preparations for our upcoming ’Anthony
Brown Exhibition’ Excursion and the Opening of Art Therapy Class>
We have many a joyful news for July.
First of all, we
will be able to go on a little outing to the ‘Anthony Brown Exhibition’ held at
Hangaram
Art Museum, Seoul Arts Center. We are currently making preparations for this
exciting vacation excursion. Two supporters funded this trip, and yet they have
sent more than enough to cover our expenses, so we have been able to
comfortably provide for our children. The date of our trip will be August the 3rd
(Wednesday), 7th (Sunday), and 10th (Wednesday),
and volunteers from ‘Happy Move’ will help us take our children to the museum.
There will be a total of 60 members for our trip.
Most
of our multicultural mothers do not know where Seoul Arts Center is or who
Anthony Brown is, but since they have been in a long, trusting relationship
with our organization and hold a tight bond with us, mothers also have high
expectations for this vacation art excursion. And our children are just so very
happy to see ‘Happy Move’ volunteers once again in addition to our monthly
After-‘Saturady School’ Parties.
Summer
vacation Art Therapy Class has started on the 23rd, 11 A.M. This
time, we are planning to hold a rather short Therapy Class session, with a
total of 5 therapy sessions. Since our organization runs such therapy programs
every vacation (summer and winter), we have decided that it would be better to
hold a 10-week therapy session in the winter, and a 5-week therapy session in
the summer. We are running three class sessions as usual: Mothers’ Class,
Preschool Class, Elementary Grade Class.
‘Happy
Move’ mentoring party was held on the 16th, with the exciting
activity of Playcorn-Toy building. Right before ending our little party, we
scheduled a special ‘Thank You’ letter-writing event—children to our ‘Happy
Move’ volunteers and volunteers to children as well—and everyone was deeply
touched by these ‘Thank You’ letters.
At
our executive office, we are currently working on our ‘Webzine Preparation
Project.’ At our last general meeting, members have approved of publishing our
own bulletin. However, this project has been deferred because of the high cost
of publishing paper magazines, and thus, we have concluded that bulletins would
be unsustainable considering the financial circumstances of our organization.
As an alternative, therefore, we have moved on to the solution of publishing
our magazine in electronic form, that is, our own webzine, on a minimal budget.
As you may well know, it has already been 7 years since our organization has
grown and developed with the multicultural children and mothers we have supported,
and with volunteers who have devoted their precious time to helping out our
organization. And there are to be found countless touching stories during this
period. Activities including piano class, violin class, counseling program, art
therapy class, exercise mentoring and the like are at the heart of our services.
Most important of all is the ‘Happy Move’ party that we hold once every month.
We feel that it would be wasteful not to share our past memories and activities
with the larger public, and we think that it’s about time that we started
spreading our story in the form of sophisticated language before it is too late.
Also, we would need professors as well as other professionals to look at and
analyze our stories and case studies so that we could more broadly discuss the
social issue of multicultural society and family not only with our organization
members but with the wider public.
For
such a webzine to be published, however, we need all of our Rainbow Dream
family members to become writers of this electronic magazine, to take lots of
pictures of our children, and to introduce ‘multi-culture family’-related books
and movies. We would be grateful if our Rainbow Dream volunteers and supporters
offer help in creating and polishing our webzine. Thank you as always for all
your interest and support.
