<Opening
Parent Class for Multi-cultural Families in September: “Release your depressed
heart”>
On every Saturday, 8-12 parents of
multicultural families came to Saturday school with their children, and they
are watching their children study, talking with each other in their mother
tongues.
At the beginning of our ministry, we had so
much concentrated on the programs for the children like piano lesson, art class
and Korean/English lesson and monthly party that we could not take sufficient
care of the problems of mothers. But three years ago we started to open group
art therapy class for mothers in the morning of Saturday during summer and
winter vacation to heal their wounded heart.
Then we came to realize that we should not
delay any longer parent education as children are having more school problems
as they grow up. Without the change of parents, how can we solve the problems
of children?
Parent class is open on a bi-weekly basis.
As Numusuh has not been supported by any government or city or local government
but by the donation of voluntary supporters, we have always tried to make our
programs as sustainable as possible. Since the first week of September, Jeon
Jin Lee started to meet mothers for two hours and to have talks about
children’s school life and learning habits and to develop a good program
together.
We have tried to overcome the bias about
our program that it must use very cheap materials in class, because it is free
for multi-cultural families. So we have used the best materials and the most
elegant program for the mother’s group activities since we opened our piano
class eight years ago.
We received the response from the first
class on the first day.
Asked about the class after the
multi-cultural parent class, one Vietnamese mother answered with tears in her
eyes, “Teacher, we know that you are always trying to offer the best class to
us. Thank you so much!”
